Monet is a 2025 Artist in Residence at The Watermill Center in Southhampton, NY.
Monet received a Support for Artists grant from the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) to continue her creative work. Sponsored by Millay Arts, this award will fund the next play in her Yucatán play cycle.
TORERA was featured as part of WP Theater’s Feelin’ Fresh Festival on January 13, 2025.
Torera: A Discussion with Monet Hurst-Mendoza was held at Drama Bookshop in New York City on Thursday, December 19, 2024.
Monet has been invited to join the Latinx Theatre Commons National Convening at the Latino Theatre Company’s 2024 Encuentro Festival in Los Angeles, CA.
In 2024, Monet was honored to be selected for several prestigious writing residencies, including MacDowell, Ucross, Millay Arts, La Mama Umbria International, Stillwright, SPACE on Ryder Farm, and with renowned LA author, Francesca Lia Block.
TORERA recieved it’s world premiere at The Alley Theatre from May 12 - June 11, 2023. The play has been published by Concord Theatricals and is now available for licensing on their website.
An episode of Law and Order: SVU that Monet has co-written with Brianna Yellen and Kathy Dobie (“Eighteen Wheels A Predator”) has been nominated for a 2023 Edgar Award for Best Television Episode Teleplay. Presented by the Mystery Writers of America.
